The Studio
Woodturning has been a passion of mine since I was introduced to the art in college. Originally a student of Industrial Design, I turned my first bowl as an extra credit assignment in my freshman model shop class. Half a semester later I was enrolled in my first woodworking class and soon transferred completely over to the Furniture Design ciriculum. Having no previous woodworking experience, I became quite enthralled with the aesthetics of wood as they evolved through the trurning process. I used every excuse I could find to incorporate turning into my class projects. Three years out of college, I finally have my own woodworking shop through which I have created HandSpun Studio. HandSpun is my line of turned vessels made from a variety of native woods. Meticulously carved and polished, fallen trees become curvaceous works of art, specifically formed for the purposes they serve. It is what I like to call 'utilitarian art'. This website is a way for me to share my turned creations with you.
